Timeless Luxury Captured on Film: A Woodmere Residence Photographed on Medium Format
When I was invited to photograph this stunning residence in Woodmere, NY for interior designer Ariella Horowitz, I knew I wanted to capture it with a different eye. There was something timeless about the architecture and finishes that called for a more intentional approach—so I brought out my Hasselblad CM500 and shot the entire project on medium format film. Film forces a slower pace, which gave me the chance to truly absorb and honor the visual language Ariella created in this Long Island home.
From the stately limestone façade to the moody elegance of the marble-clad kitchen, every room tells its own story. The entry welcomes with symmetry and grandeur, while the black staircase with gold accents introduces a bold yet graceful rhythm that flows throughout the home. In the living areas, textures and tones were layered thoughtfully—warm woods, plush fabrics, and custom lighting fixtures made the space feel luxurious yet lived in. Shooting on film allowed me to render those layers with depth and fidelity, capturing the character of each design detail. This project is a strong example of why high-end residential photography—particularly for interior designers and architects—benefits from both technical skill and a creative mindset. Whether you're designing for hospitality, luxury real estate, or private residences, these kinds of images elevate your portfolio and help potential clients truly feel your work. Based in New York City and Long Island, I collaborate with professionals who value intentional storytelling, and I bring that energy into every shoot.
