Photographing a Northport Waterfront Oasis with Q Design Group on Long Island
Every so often, a property comes along that completely transforms how we think about outdoor living—and this stunning waterfront home in Northport, Long Island did just that. Photographed for Q Design Group, a top-tier landscape architect on Long Island, this shoot captured one of the most thoughtfully designed backyards I’ve ever had the pleasure of documenting. From the moment I stepped onto the grounds, the interplay of architectural form, curated landscaping, and seamless indoor-outdoor transitions made this a dream project to photograph.
At the heart of the design is a classic shingle-style home framed by lush gardens and dramatic stonework. We timed the shoot around golden hour to emphasize the way the soft evening light danced across the textured façade and coastal plantings. The outdoor kitchen and bar, set under a pergola, is a gathering space built for both style and function—with high-end finishes and views that stretch all the way across the Sound. Just a short walk from there, a sandy fire pit lounge tucked among the trees overlooks the water, offering a front-row seat to every sunset.
Working with Q Design Group always means capturing more than just beauty—it’s about telling the story of how a space feels. This backyard in Northport wasn’t just designed; it was choreographed. Each element—from the stone pathways to the fire-lit seating and private dock—was positioned to enhance how people interact with the landscape. As an architectural photographer, it’s projects like this that reinforce why Long Island remains such an inspiring canvas for design.
